Hate crimes increased by 21 percent in Spain in 2023, compared to the previous year's proportion, according to a report released by the Ministry of Interior on Monday. Law enforcement personnel recorded 2,268 hate crimes in 2023, according to the report, also noting that crimes related to hate of foreigners reached 856. Crimes linked to gender identity and inclinations came second with 522 cases and those related to ideologies amounted to 352. The report that shed light on the hate crimes in 2023, as compared to the 2022 records, said attacks on people of special challenges amounted to 113 percent, while anti-Semitic offenses grew by 77 percent (23 cases), while hostile acts against gypsies were estimated 68 percent (37 cases).
