German Chancellor visits flood-hit south of country, examines aftermath

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, along with Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, visited on Monday flood-hit areas in southern Germany to closely examine disaster aftermath. Government's media office mentioned that the two visited areas in Bavaria, considered one of the most hard-hit areas alongside Baden-Württemberg. The past few days saw interruption of communication lines, evacuation of thousands of residents, as well as destruction of infrastructure. While emergency teams continue rescue operations, the national railway service, Duetsche Bahn announced closure of certain lines and asked travelers to refrain from going to flood-hit areas unless absolutely necessary. Earlier, authorities announced that a firefighter passed away in the line of duty, and a few citizens remain missing. Rainfall is expected to decrease in the south, but alarms have been sounded as the storm is expected to make its way to eastern Germany. Source: Kuwait News Agency
