Gaza nears famine, warns WFP

New York: The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that more than half a million people in Gaza are still facing catastrophic levels of food insecurity. WFP spokesperson for the Middle East and North Africa, Abeer Etefa, said that the risk of famine is increasing every day as the conflict continues to limit the delivery of life-saving food assistance, noting that the Strip is home to the largest gathering of people in famine-like conditions. "The speed at which we have reached this point is a cause for further concern," Etefa added in a press conference on Tuesday. She pointed out that children who have been evacuated for treatment on the Egyptian side of the border have begun to suffer from malnutrition, underweight, and severe thinness. "If we don't have more humanitarian truces, ceasefires, and more access to people, we will see people starving in a very difficult humanitarian situation," Etefa concluded. Source: Jordan News Agency
