Amman: Chaired by Amman Mayor, Yousef Shawarbeh, Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Council on Thursday approved several key agreements during its 2024 9th regular session. During the session, the Council okayed signing the financing agreement (grant) with the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ). Under this agreement, GIZ will provide 240,000 euros to the GAM to support environmental awareness campaigns and waste sorting initiatives as part of the Solid Waste Management in Jordan (SoWas). In a related context, the Council passed amendments to the agreement with GIZ, Ministry of Local Administration, and Ministry of Environment within the SoWas. Additionally, the Council endorsed an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture aimed at reforesting the ministry-owned barren lands within GAM's jurisdiction, which aligns with the partnership to achieve the national goal to plant 10 million trees over the next decade.
