French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday refused the resignation of the country's prime minister Gabriel Attal, asking him to remain temporarily as the head of the government after the election results left the country in front of a suspended parliament, as the new left-wing coalition took the lead without an absolute majority. The President requested Gabriel Attal to remain in position at this current time to ensure the country's stability, the French Presidency said in a statement. The French Prime Minister had earlier arrived at the President's office Monday to submit his resignation following the parliamentary elections, in which the political camp of the government lost its role as the most powerful alliance in the country to the left wing in a suspended parliament. The preliminary results showed the left-wing alliance leading the voting results in the second round of legislative elections in France, while the presidential alliance came in second ahead of the far-right alliance, but without either o f the competing blocs achieving an absolute majority in the National Assembly.
