Fourth workshop on legal empowerment to serve vulnerable groups concluded

The fourth legal empowerment workshop to provide legal services to vulnerable groups was concluded in Sanaa, organized by the Yemeni Women's Union, in coordination and cooperation with the Ministries of Justice and Interior, funded by the United Nations Development Programme. In conclusion, Chief specialist for international cooperation and human rights at the Ministry of Justice Adnan al-Salehi explained that the workshop discussed government and societal interventions that could be undertaken to help vulnerable groups and the legal basis on which these interventions are based, both in terms of national legislation and international agreements consistent with the principles of the Islamic religion and law and national legislation. Al-Salehi pointed out that providing legal and guidance support to vulnerable groups in society aims to legally empower legal and community institutions by strengthening partnership between them in order to facilitate equal access to justice. Al-Salehi pointed out that the vulne rable groups in society are considered the weakest link in need of support and protection through community motivation so as to play its role in resolving their issues through alternative dispute resolution methods. Abdul-Ghani Al-Wajeeh, who delivered the United Nations Development Programme's speech, said that the workshop came within the framework of the project to enhance comprehensive access to justice in Yemen in Sana'a province, funded by the programme. Over a period of five days, the workshop aimed to raise the capabilities and skills of 25 judges and jurists who provide legal support services in judicial and security institutions, ministries, and civil society organizations to play their role in providing their legal and guidance services to vulnerable groups in society.
