The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is following up on the kidnapping of an Iraqi citizen in Homs, noting that the Syrian authorities have arrested a number of people involved in the kidnapping. The ministry stated in a statement that it "the ministry of foreign affairs is closely following up on the kidnapping of a citizen from Basra Governorate in the village of Al-Bayadiyah in the city of Homs on August 24, 2024. In this context, our embassy in Damascus, through the Chargé d'Affaires, is conducting intensive contacts with the highest security authorities in the Syrian Arab Republic to ensure his release as soon as possible." It added that "the competent Syrian authorities have arrested a number of people for their involvement in the kidnapping incident, and the security authorities are continuing their tireless efforts to reach the kidnapped Iraqi citizen and ensure his safety." The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed, according to the statement, its appreciation for the continued cooper ation of the Syrian authorities, and affirms its commitment to follow up on this case until the Iraqi citizen is released and returned to his homeland safely," stressing "the importance of Iraqi residents and visitors communicating with the Iraqi embassy in Damascus, and not going to unsafe places in Syrian regions, to preserve their safety."
