Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Jamal Amer met on Wednesday with the Resident Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Sana'a, Marin Din Kajdomcaj. During the meeting, which was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Abdul Wahid Abu Ras discussed the problems suffered by refugees and their impact on the security and social situation due to their sit-ins in front of the office of the Refugee Organization. In the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that asylum and migration issues are among the priorities of the work of the Government of Change and Construction, due to its direct relationship with societies, referring to the directives of the President of the Supreme Political Council in this regard. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) urged the rapid provision of urgent assistance to the displaced, especially in the affected areas in the governorates of Hodeida, Hajjah, and Al-Mahwit as a result of the recent floods. Minister Amer touched on the exceptional circumstances in Yemen as a result of the aggression and the deterioration of economic conditions, pointing out that the increasing number of illegal immigrants and the granting of more approvals to asylum seekers increase the burdens borne by the government. He called on UNHCR to shoulder its responsibility in addressing refugee-related issues. In turn, the Deputy Foreign Minister explained that the ministry, represented by the National Committee for Refugees, will work to provide all facilities to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Sana'a and enhance cooperation during the coming period. For his part, the Resident Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) expressed readiness to enhance cooperation in the interest of the Yemeni citizens. UNHCR's Sana'a office has been a partner of the Yemeni government for decades and most of its projects are aimed at providing essent ial assistance to displaced people, refugees, and their host community. Kajdomcaj stressed the commitment to the rules governing the work of the organizations, expressing his aspiration for more cooperation and partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants.
