RAMALLAH: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the caretaker government, Riyad Al-Malki, briefed his Canadian counterpart, Mélanie Joly, on the latest political developments during a meeting held in the city of Ramallah. Malki thanked his Canadian counterpart for her country's positive decision to fund the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) again, reflecting Canada's keenness on the essential presence of UNRWA and the important services it provides to Palestinian refugees, particularly in such a difficult situation. The foreign minister demanded urgent intervention to protect civilians and ensure the delivery of humanitarian needs to the Gaza Strip, including its northern, central, and southern districts, stressing the need to force Israel's compliance with the provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). For her part, the Canadian minister stressed her country's position calling for the need to protect civilians and bring humanitari an aid into the Strip. She also affirmed that Canada supports the European plan of a two-state solution, stressing that colonialism constitutes an obstacle before the chance to implement the principle of a two-state solution. The Canadian foreign minister added that Canada is working with all partners to create a political horizon conducive to the achievement of peace between the Palestinian-Israeli sides.
