Amman: Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, and his Irish counterpart Micheal Martin Monday discussed on the phone regional developments, efforts to stop Israel's aggression on Gaza and the humanitarian catastrophe in the strip. Safadi stressed the need to intensify efforts to stop the Israeli aggression and ongoing violations of international law and international humanitarian law, and ensure the protection of civilians and delivery of enough, sustainable and unhindered humanitarian aid to Gaza. He stressed the need to provide protection to the Palestinian people and international organizations and relief agencies working in Gaza to mitigate the impact of ongoing Israeli attacks and enable them to carry out their vital humanitarian role. Safadi also warned of illegal Israeli measures against the Palestinian people and the Palestinian National Authority in the occupied West Bank as "a flagrant violation of international law and a dangerous escalation" that undermines al l chances to bring about a just and comprehensive peace. The ministers also discussed the deterioration in southern Lebanon, where Safadi urged deescalation and adherence to Security Council Resolution 1701. Safadi appreciated Ireland's position calling for an end to the aggression against Gaza, its recognition of a Palestinian state and stand by the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and statehood on the basis of the two-state solution and in accordance with international law. For his part, Martin commended Jordan's role in achieving regional security, stability and peace, as well as its efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Source: Jordan News Agency
