Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan confirmed that the decisions of the foreign ministers of the Islamic Group of Eight (D-8) countries at their extraordinary meeting in Istanbul yesterday, Saturday, will contribute to the Palestinian people gaining their freedom. Fidan said in a post on the X-Platform, commenting on the extraordinary meeting of Foreign Ministers of the D-8 Group, which was hosted by Istanbul: The Group's ministers discussed diplomatic, political, economic and legal pressure on Israel. "In this period in which we bear a historic responsibility towards Palestine, we are activating every international platform to stop the massacres committed by Israel as soon as possible," and that "the concrete decisions they took at the meeting will increase Israel's isolation and contribute to the freedom of the Palestinians." Yesterday, Saturday, Istanbul hosted the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Group of Eight Islamic Countries (D-8) to discuss the ongoing Israeli war o n the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. In its final statement of its foreign ministers' meeting, the group called for an "immediate, permanent and unconditional" ceasefire and an end to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip. It also called on all countries to ensure Israel's strict compliance with the interim measures ordered by the International Court of Justice. The eight Islamic countries affirmed their "steadfast support for the struggle of the Palestinian people to obtain their inalienable rights, for Palestine's full membership in the United Nations, and for all decisions related to the Palestinian issue in international forums." The Group of Eight Islamic countries includes: Turkey, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia and Bangladesh. The group was established in Turkey in 1997 and aims to strengthen economic and social relations between member states, but for the first time it holds a meeting to discuss a political issue such as the Palestinian issue.
