Amman: Senate President Faisal Fayez Saturday called on Arab lawyers to "make every possible effort" to expose Israeli violations of international legitimacy and the United Nations Charter and its criminal policies, and reaffirm the Palestinian people's right to freedom and independence. He said at the opening session of an international conference on the United Nations Charter and international legitimacy, organized by the Arab Organization of Young Lawyers, that Arab lawyers are called upon to promote just Arab issues, and work with international human rights institutions to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and people in other Arab countries. Where is the United Nations and its charter and values from the war and hideous massacres perpetrated by Israel, which was established on the ashes of World War II, in order to protect and safeguard international peace and security, prevent and resolve conflicts and enhance international cooperation?, he queried. The Senate head reminded international org anizations defending peoples' freedom and right to life and dignity that about 39,000 Palestinians were killed and 90,000 injured, most of them women and children, and about 10,000 missing in the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. Fayez pointed to the United Nations' and Security Council's failure to enforce the UN Charter and international humanitarian law, and put an end to the brutal Israeli massacres and war crimes against the Palestinian people, just as it was unable to end the occupation that has been going on for nearly eight decades despite dozens of UN resolutions that remained in limbo. "The UN has failed to implement the principles upon which it was established, as it was unable to prevent conflicts, wars, hegemony and division, and poverty, ignorance, homelessness and asylum increased," he told the conference. He noted Jordan's support for the Palestinian cause and struggle, and its ongoing efforts to stop the brutal Israeli aggression and stand up against Israel's expansionist designs. Dur ing the two-day conference, law professors, lawyers and specialists from 12 Arab countries will discuss Israeli violations of the UN Charter and international legitimacy, and action to push the international community to shoulder its legal responsibility.
