Executive Office in Amran discusses health situation in governorate

A meeting of the Executive Office of Amran Governorate on Wednesday, chaired by the First Undersecretary of the Governorate, Abdul Aziz Abu Kharfasha, discussed the health situation in the governorate and the plan to combat the cholera epidemic. The meeting, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Governorate, Hassan Al-Ashqas, listened to the report of the Director General of the Health Office, Dr. Muhammad Al-Houthi, on the number of suspected cholera cases reported during the period from March 14 to June 3, 2024, which reached 8 thousand and 136 cases, including 22 deaths, 86 positive cases and 91 negative cases. Al-Houthi touched on the places of cholera spread in the governorate's directorates, noting that Amran and Khater hospitals and health centers in the districts receive cases of acute diarrhea and suspected cholera. The meeting stressed the importance of spreading awareness among people in coordination with the Ministry of Education and the Guidance Office about watery diarrhea disease and ways to prevent it, commitment to personal hygiene and the need to wash fruits and vegetables before eating them. The Executive Office approved the obligation of the competent authorities not to supply agricultural products from places where agricultural crops are contaminated with sewage water and to go to the markets to take samples of vegetables and examine them periodically. The office also directed the concerned authorities in the water sector to go to the field to periodically inspect drinking water sources and ensure their safety from bacteria and pollution. The First Undersecretary of the Governorate, Abu Kharfasha, stressed the importance of the role of the offices of water, environment, sanitation, hygiene, improvement, media and endowments in carrying out their duty in awareness work, which contributes to confronting acute watery diarrhea and limiting its spread. He stressed the need to implement rapid interventions in the field of water resources by examining samples of water wells and vehicle s transporting drinking water to citizens and intensifying field monitoring to ensure compliance with health requirements. He pointed to the importance of intensifying awareness and community health education about acute watery diarrhea and how to prevent it, introducing the importance of personal protection and washing vegetables and fruits well before eating. The Director General of the Maternity and Childhood Hospital, Dr. Hadi Al-Hamzi, reviewed the overall difficulties faced by the hospital after the interruption of support provided by international organizations and ways to address them.
