European Union foreign ministers announced that they have agreed to impose new sanctions on Russia, over allegations that Russia is trying to exert political influence in Moldova. According to AFP, Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu said on Monday that the EU sanctions target Russian entities and organizations accused of destabilizing democracy and security in Moldova ahead of a crucial referendum on its membership in the bloc later this month, noting that the sanctions targeted five individuals and one entity.
