RAMALLAH: The European Union (EU) and its foreign ministers Monday discussed the consequences of the ongoing Israeli occupation genocidal aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7th. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad Al-Maliki, is participating in the meeting to mobilize the greatest support for a permanent ceasefire and to halt the ongoing Israeli genocide against Gaza. Al-Maliki is set to hold several bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of European Union countries and a number of European officials, informing them of the latest developments regarding the Palestinian cause and the ongoing war on the Gaza Strip, in light of the horrific conditions after 100 days of the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza. FM Maliki urged European Union countries to recognize the state of Palestine and to end of the Israeli occupation. Foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League are set to attend the meeting. Before the meeting, the European Union's diplomatic sent a letter, proposing a road for peace in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, including a call to hold a "preparatory conference for peace" organized by the European Union, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the League of Arab States, while also inviting the United States and the United Nations to participate in the meeting Conference. The letters pointed out that one of the main goals of the peace plan should be the establishment of an independent Palestinian state living side by side with Israel in peace and security. European Union officials acknowledge that Israeli officials and diplomats currently show no interest in a two-state solution, but insist that it is the only option for long-term peace. European Union foreign affairs Chief Josep Borrell stressed the need to start talking about concrete plans for a two-state solution. In statements to reporters ahead of a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Brussels, Borrell stressed that Israel cannot build peace 'by military mea ns alone.' Borrell said that "the humanitarian situation in Gaza could not be worse, and asked: 'What other solutions are they thinking of? Pushing all the Palestinians to leave? Killing them?"
