Egypt on Sunday warned of a prospected flare-up of a full-scale war in Lebanon and expressed concern such an eventuality might snowball into a regional war. A foreign ministry source, in a statement, affirmed Cairo's support for Lebanon, its people, and institutions and sparing it the perils of war. The official Egyptian stand was expressed against the backdrop of a rocket crash into the town of Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan Heights on Saturday. The rocket hit a crowded soccer pitch leaving more than ten people killed and scores injured. The foreign ministry source said Egypt has called on influential international powers to intervene immediately to spare the region catastrophic repercussions. Cairo, according to the official source, has also warned against the continuation of the Israeli occupation war on Gaza, reiterating its call for enforcing an immediate cease-fire.
