An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale hit West Papua Province in Indonesia. The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency reported on Wednesday that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 140 kilometers from Northwest of Jayapura, the capital of Papua province in western Indonesia, at a depth of 78 kilometers. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far. Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
