Earthquake Hits Part of Indonesias Papua

An earthquake measuring 5.4 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Indonesias easternmost province of Papua on Monday, but there were no immediate reports of serious damage or casualties.

The US Geological Survey said the quake was centered 135 kilometers southwest of Abepura, a subdistrict in Jayapura, the capital of Papua province. It occurred at a depth of 13 kilometers.

Indonesias Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency said there was no danger of a tsunami but warned of possible aftershocks.

Indonesia is exposed to frequent earthquakes due to its location along the Ring of Fire.
