The Deputy Representative of the United Nations in Iraq (UNAMI) Claudio Cordone praised the role of the Iraqi government in confronting violence against women and supporting their rights. Cordone said during the conference on combating violence against women: "I commend the commitment of the Iraqi government to confront violence against women and support the rights of Iraqi women in general, and I also welcome the role of the Prime Minister in urging government agencies to expedite the implementation of decisions related to women." He added that "the role of the Supreme Council for Women in communicating with the Parliamentary Committee for Women, Family and Childhood is a positive example of enriching the positive role of Iraqi women, and I urge Iraqi leaders to ensure that any proposed project protects the rights of women and children in line with Iraq's international obligations related to human rights. He urged the Council of Representatives to adopt a law against domestic violence, as well as establis h shelters for people exposed to violence." Source: National Iraqi News Agency
