Contractors’ Syndicate Pushes for New Public-Private Firm to Spearhead Amman Mega-Project.

Amman: President of the Jordanian Contractors' Syndicate, Fouad Duwairi, announced ongoing efforts to establish a large-scale construction company through a public-private partnership, specifically tasked with implementing the new Amman city project and exporting Jordanian contracting expertise regionally. According to Jordan News Agency, following a recent meeting with Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, Duwairi confirmed that the proposed company would focus on expanding Jordan's construction sector abroad and taking the lead on local mega-projects. He emphasized the syndicate's commitment to collaborating with the government to support national economic modernization goals, aligning with directives encouraging robust public-private partnerships to enhance Jordan's competitiveness on a global scale. Al-Duwairi revealed that the syndicate has presented proposals to formalize the public-private partnership framework, aiming to optimize synergy between sectors, boost exports, and elevate the competitive position o f Jordanian industries in regional and international markets. In addition to outlining potential operational strategies, Duwairi provided the prime minister with a roadmap for implementing the new city's plans, leveraging insights from regional and global projects and emphasizing the syndicate's expertise in the field. Duwairi commended the efforts of the Minister of Public Works and Housing, highlighting the minister's pivotal role in removing barriers to sector growth and fostering direct communication with the syndicate to resolve challenges facing contractors. On behalf of the minister, the syndicate is also working on a preliminary framework for the new company's governance structure, which would feature a semi-governmental model. The board is proposed to include officials from relevant ministries, the Jordanian Contractors' Syndicate, the Jordan Engineers Association, and engineering consultancies, addressing challenges such as direct and indirect guarantees and financing key factors in enabling Jorda n's construction sector to expand internationally.
