Hundreds of extremist Israeli settlers organized a provocative march this evening in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, demanding an end to the Jordanian Islamic Waqf jurisdiction over the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Islam's third holiest site which is located in the Old City. The march started from Bab al-Khalil in occupied Jerusalem and proceeded through Bab Al Amoud Square, the Islamic Quarter, the Old Market, and the Wadi neighborhood. The march was ostensibly in celebration of the Jewish holidays and aimed at demanding an end of the Islamic Waqf jurisdiction over the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Participating settlers shouted profanities and racist slogans targeted at Arabs and Palestinians, assaulting several passersby. In response to potential attacks, local Palestinian businesses closed their doors during the march. Earlier today, the all-Israeli municipality of Jerusalem installed a large candlestick in Bab al-Jadeed Square, one of the gates of the Old City, marking the commencement of the Jewish holidays.
