Local purchases of mobile devices and accessories via bank cards reached approximately JD21 million during the first half of 2024. Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), the Head of the Association of Mobiles and Accessories Investors, Ahmed Alloush, said the figure reflects a clear shift in consumer behavior towards using bank cards instead of cash payments. He noted that many citizens opt for installment purchases through the flexible programs offered by banks, especially given the available promotions and discounts on these transactions. Alloush explained that the cellular device market in Jordan has experienced fluctuations in purchase volumes over recent years. Purchases via bank cards were valued at around JD16 million in 2021, rising to JD23 million in 2022 before dropping to JD15 million in 2023. He added that the increase in purchases in 2022 was partly due to banks deferring installments and the return of economic activities following the lockdowns imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
