Biden criticizes Supreme Court’s immunity ruling for Trump

President Joe Biden criticized the Supreme Court's decision on Monday, for granting immunity from prosecution to former President Donald Trump on charges in connection with the attack on US Capitol by his supporters. "This nation was founded on the principle that there are no kings in America, each of us is equal before the law No one is above the law, not even the president of United States," said Biden on Thursday from the White House. He also added that the Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity fundamentally altered those principle, as the decision mean that there were virtually "no limits to what a president can do". Biden considered this new principle dangerous as the presidency's authority would no longer be constrained by law even the Supreme Court, as the only limit would be self-imposed by the president alone. He also remarked that the court's attack in recent years of established legal principles undermined the rule of law in the US. Supreme Court ruled Trump an immunity from prosecutio n from charges related to his role as president, however it does not cover his personal charges. This decision is a significant victory for the Republican candidate who is facing several trials, including charges related to his attempt to overturn 2020 presidential elections.
