Director General of the Jordan Media Commission Bashir Momani on Sunday met with a delegation from the Arab League mission, led by Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Arab Affairs and National Security Sector Ambassador Khalil Ibrahim al-Thawadi, to discuss preparations for monitoring the 2024 parliamentary elections. During the meeting, Momani outlined the commission's role in supporting the Independent Election Commission, which holds the constitutional and legal mandate over the election process. He highlighted the commission's logistical support efforts, in line with directives from Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh, as part of the country's broader political modernization project initiated under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II. Momani underscored the importance of ensuring that licensed media outlets are free to cover election-related news while adhering to media regulations and ethics. He emphasized that no media practices should undermine the integrity of the elections, and noted that official media operates with professionalism, maintaining neutrality toward all candidates and parties. Al-Thawadi noted that the Arab League mission's involvement in monitoring the elections reflects the organization's commitment to following electoral processes in member states. He praised Jordan's organization of the elections, particularly in light of the challenging circumstances facing the region. Source: Jordan News Agency
