CAIRO: The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmad Aboul Gheit, today met with the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian Territories in Cairo, where they discussed the humanitarian situation in the war-torn Gaza Strip in light of the Israeli occupation crimes carried out against the Palestinian people, which has been ongoing for over six months. Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, said Aboul Gheit commended the work and positions of the UN Special Rapporteur, Francesca Albanese, as the voice of the world's conscience amid the silence and disregard of many countries for the crimes committed by the occupation against the Strip, which falls under genocidal acts. During the meeting, the Secretary-General stressed that the crimes of the Israeli occupation can not be considered as mistakes or collateral damage of military action by any criterion. 'They are deliberate crimes aimed at collectively punishing the population and depriving the m of their fundamental right to live on their land." Aboul Gheit also expressed his support for the UN Special Rapporteur in the face of the frenzied incitement campaigns carried out against her, stressing that the goals of these campaigns are clear; stating that: Israel seeks to stifle any voice that speaks independently to unmask the reality of the massacres it is committing against civilians in the Gaza Strip.
