The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), in partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has rolled out the second phase of its public awareness and community engagement campaign for the Recycling Bank project, targeting the neighborhoods of Wadi Al-Seer and Tla'a Al-Ali. The Recycling Bank project represents a forward-thinking solution aimed at enhancing waste separation at the source in Amman and encouraging businesses to adopt sustainable recycling practices. These banks serve as designated hubs within the city for collecting recyclable materials with market value, instead of allowing mixed waste to end up in landfills. As part of this phase, teams from GAM's Environmental Projects, Social Facilities, and Environmental Studies departments will lead comprehensive awareness campaigns. These will engage a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including sanitation workers, schools, residential communities, commercial establishments, and key institutions. The objective is to solidify the pra ctice of source separation, promote the economic and environmental benefits of recycling, and address any concerns from the public about the project's implementation. This phase aims to elevate public understanding of the importance of recycling, foster acceptance of modern environmental practices, and encourage behavioral changes that align with sustainable development. Additionally, the project is expected to open up new investment opportunities by reducing the volume of waste sent to landfills and creating value from recyclable materials. The first phase of the initiative focused on raising awareness among GAM employees in the targeted areas of Tla'a Al-Ali and Wadi Al-Seer, as well as staff from relevant municipal departments.
