Amman: A delegation from the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), led by Deputy Mayor Mohammad Rasmi Al-Qaisi, recently held discussions with the Barcelona Municipality on advancing collaborative projects and exchanging expertise in various fields. According to Jordan News Agency, the delegation met with Sara Belbeida, Commissioner for Citizen Relations and Religious Diversity in Barcelona, to explore opportunities for deepening cooperation and learning from the Spanish city's pioneering projects. In a statement issued by GAM on Wednesday, Al-Qaisi highlighted the long-standing relationship between Amman and Barcelona, strengthened by a twinning agreement that facilitates cultural exchange and mutual growth. The deputy mayor pointed out GAM's focus on embracing innovative models for urban development, particularly in smart city solutions, which the municipality has begun piloting in six areas in central Amman. These initiatives include electronic street monitoring, smart charging stations, and an automated park ing system, with plans for wider implementation throughout the capital. In his remarks, Al-Qaisi emphasized Amman's commitment to infrastructure development, underscored by the completion of significant projects such as the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, a major component of Amman's public transport network aimed at improving connectivity. These efforts align with GAM's strategic vision for 2022-2026, which prioritizes digital transformation, the establishment of a dedicated waste management company, and increased investment in sustainable services. Sara Belbeida, representing Barcelona Municipality, presented an overview of the city's ongoing projects in public transport, waste management, and smart city initiatives. She commended Amman's progress in these areas and expressed Spain's readiness to collaborate further on projects of mutual benefit.
