Lufthansa Group announced, in a statement today, Monday, that it has suspended its flights to the Lebanese capital Beirut today, due to the current situation in the Middle East. It explained in a statement: "The group's flights, which are Swiss International Air Lines, Eurowings and Lufthansa flights, have been suspended as a precautionary measure." This comes as the Lebanese Middle East Airlines Company stated, also today, Monday, that the irregularity of its flight schedules is related to insurance risks in light of the escalating tension between Israel and Hezbollah, which caused the cancellation or delay of some flights at Beirut airport. A missile attack that killed 12 people in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday has increased fears of a full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah. The Israeli Security Cabinet has authorized the government to respond to the attack. Hezbollah denied responsibility for the attack, which caused the deadliest single casualty in Israel or in the territory it has annexed since Hamas's October 7 attack on Israel sparked the war in Gaza. Lufthansa and its subsidiary Eurowings canceled three flights to Beirut scheduled for Monday afternoon, according to the airport's departure and arrival board and flight tracking site FlightRadar24. FlightRadar24 data also showed that Turkish Airlines canceled two flights on Sunday night. Turkish budget carrier SunExpress, Turkish Airlines subsidiary AJet, Greek carrier Aegean Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Middle East Airlines also canceled flights scheduled to arrive in Beirut on Monday.
