Baghdad, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani confirmed that the new Ali Al-Wardi city will represent, with its surroundings, a main axis for what can be called a new (governorate), in terms of capacity. The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement: "Al-Sudani launched, today, Tuesday, the executive works of the road extending from the outskirts of Baghdad to the new residential city of (Ali Al-Wardi) in the Nahrawan district, southeast of Baghdad. The work includes, according to the statement, the construction of a linking and circular road for the new city, with a path that achieves the best design requirements, and ensures the smooth flow of traffic to the new city by linking it to the main and ring roads. Al-Sudani explained: "This road, and the cities of Ali Al-Wardi and Al-Jawahiri, together form the basis for the strategic solutions adopted by the government to confront the population increase, and reduce the pressure on services and electricity in the city of Baghdad, and within the de velopment of movement, transportation and development in the capital." He pointed out: "The city of (Ali Al-Wardi) is not a residential complex, but rather a large new city with integrated services and activities, which will include approximately 110,000 housing units, and that it will represent, with what surrounds it, a main axis for what can be called a new (governorate), in terms of capacity, and will be adjacent to Baghdad and complementary to it," stressing completing a package of complex procedures to prepare for the start of work, most notably preparing the road to it first. The road project consists of a (34 km) long and (12 m) wide circular road on both sides, and a (23) km long and (16 m) wide car lane on both sides. The work also includes the implementation of two bridges over the Diyala River, the implementation of a flyover intersection on the (Baghdad-Kut) road, and a connecting intersection with the (Kut-Baghdad) road, in addition to the construction of a circular square at the intersection of the connecting road with the circular road, and an overpass for the Nahrawan Road that cuts the new connecting road, as well as the construction of a bridge over the Diyala River extending from the river basin and crossing the (Kut-Baghdad) road.
