Al-Sudani stresses the importance of adopting international standards in completing the projects of Nasiriyah, Mosul and Karbala airports

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani stressed the importance of adopting international standards in completing the projects of Nasiriyah, Mosul and Karbala airports. A statement by his media office said that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a meeting today, Monday, to follow up on the projects of rehabilitating, developing and completing the international airports in Nasiriyah, Mosul and Karbala. Al-Sudani listened to a comprehensive presentation on the progress of work on the construction, rehabilitation and development projects, and the completion of the components of the buildings and specialized facilities in each of the three airports, in the presence of the concerned governor, the specialized advisor and the company implementing each project. Al-Sudani stressed the importance of these airports as development projects that will work to raise the pace of progress and effectiveness in the Iraqi economy, facilitate air traffic internally and externally, in addition to their role in attrac ting foreign companies and investments, and creating additional job opportunities. His Excellency directed that the meeting be held periodically to follow up on progress rates, and directed to address obstacles and facilitate the work of implementing companies, while emphasizing the importance of adhering to the basic specifications and designs. The Prime Minister stressed the need to adopt international standards in completing airport projects that have reached advanced completion rates, because they represent a window for Iraq with the region and the world, stressing his keenness to listen to all problems and obstacles in order to make quick decisions regarding them. The meeting witnessed a presentation of the progress of work on the Nasiriyah International Airport development project and its attached facilities, which totaled about 368 billion dinars, with a capacity of up to 750 thousand passengers per year, and proceeding with the project requires removing some site conflicts. The progress of work on the rehabilitation of Mosul International Airport, which costs 268 billion dinars, was also reviewed, and it was emphasized that deviations in the completion rates from the planned rates should be addressed. With regard to the Karbala International Airport project, which costs 500 million dollars, and has a capacity of up to 20 million passengers annually, the meeting reviewed the completion rates that reached 78%, and the completion rates of the main runway and supporting runways are nearing completion.
