Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stressed that the government's support for Lebanon expresses the position of all Iraqis, especially the religious authority. A statement from the media office stated that "al-Sudani received, today, Wednesday, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly held in New York." At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Sudani offered his condolences to Lebanon, its government and people, for the martyrdom and injury of hundreds of safe Lebanese citizens due to the ongoing Zionist aggression, stressing that "the government's support for Lebanon expresses the position of all Iraqis, especially the religious authority and all their components and social spectrums." The Prime Minister confirmed, according to the statement, Iraq's readiness to support Lebanon in various directions to overcome this crisis, through the political track or the humanitarian aspect, and that Iraq call ed for an Arab and Islamic summit to resolve this crisis and take strong positions towards the aggression, with the failure of the international community to defend human rights in Lebanon and Palestine and protect the lives of their people, indicating that the Iraqi government will not delay in providing all the required capabilities to support the brothers in Lebanon. For his part, Mikati expressed his appreciation for Iraq's supportive steps and the support it has continued to provide over the past years, especially during this crisis in which Iraq rushed to be the first country to send urgent aid to alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people, praising Iraq's efforts in calling for an Arab and Islamic summit to stop the brutal aggression against Lebanon and its people, and prevent the spread of conflict in the region.
