Member of the Supreme Political Council, Sultan Al-Sama'i, opened on Thursday the new expansion of 'Harraz Coffee in the Al-Emadi Center' investment center in the Haddah area in Amanat Al-Asimah, as part of the activities celebrating National Coffee Day. At the opening, which was attended by the Secretary of the Supreme Political Council, Dr. Yasser Al-Houri, Al-Sama'i pointed out that the celebration of the activities related to National Coffee Day coincides with the commemoration of the anniversary activities of the martyr leader, Sayyed. Hussein Badr Al-Din Al-Houthi. He stressed that the Qur'anic project that the martyr leader came up with had results in making the nation aware of the dangers facing it and the conspiracies targeting the freedom and independence of Yemen. He indicated that many of the martyr leader's lectures included topics that encouraged agriculture, especially interest in growing grains. He pointed out that the state is moving today to encourage agriculture in general and the cultiv ation and marketing of coffee in particular, praising the role of the people of the Haraz region who had a pioneering role in growing and marketing coffee, and their contribution to supporting and encouraging coffee cultivation and replacing it with the qat tree. The Supreme Political Member Al-Sami'i called for joining efforts and working to advance coffee cultivation and restore Yemen's lead in the field of its cultivation and export. He said, 'What is exported today of Yemeni coffee are good quantities, and our ambition is to raise the amount of export from 20 thousand tons to 100 thousand tons to one million tons annually". He pointed out that during the past year, many agricultural activities were supervised that were carried out by farmers in the governorates of Taiz and Ibb, by uprooting qat trees and replacing them with coffee. He pointed out that approximately 50 thousand coffee seedlings were distributed free of charge to farmers in Ibb and Taiz during the past year, with the aim of encouraging cu ltivate it. Al-Sama'i urged to pay attention to coffee growing nurseries, stressing the keenness to encourage coffee cultivation and work to address the difficulties and obstacles facing coffee farmers. For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation in the caretaker government, Engineer Abdulmalik Al-Thawr, considered Yemeni coffee to represent the identity of a people and the heritage of a nation, pointing out that from this standpoint and by virtue of the authenticity of the Yemeni people, the Ministry of Agriculture seeks to pay attention to developing their agriculture. He pointed out that the government prepared a comprehensive national strategy to develop coffee cultivation. This strategy included expanding coffee cultivation, and over the past four years more than 13 million coffee trees were distributed. He said, "Yemen's coffee exports abroad have reached about 12 thousand tons annually, and they are exported at the highest prices. The price of a kilo of Yemeni coffee reaches 50 dollars , while other countries such as Ethiopia and others exported coffee, and the price of a kilo does not exceed 4 dollars, and the reason for this is the quality of the Yemeni coffee and its quality." The Minister of Agriculture added, "We export one kilogram of Yemeni coffee worth $50, and the amount of 20,000 tons of coffee amounts to a billion dollars, which confirms the necessity of developing its exports to be a resource to support the national economy and be a source of national income and at the same time a source of foreign exchange in Yemen, all of this is thanks to the efforts of those working in coffee, from the most senior official to the smallest farmer.' He praised the role of businessmen and the private sector in supporting this crop, investing in this field and marketing it. Source: Yemen News Agency
