Al-Sadr Hopes Parliaments Of The World Will Legislate A Law Criminalizing Attacks On Holy Books

The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, expressed his hope that the parliaments of the world would take the initiative to legislate a law criminalizing attacks on the holy Books.

This came in an appeal and invitation that Al-Sadr addressed via his tweet.

The text of the tweet read:

A message from Muqtada, the servant of the Qur'an

To the advocates of freedom and peace, especially to Sweden and Denmark

In the name of freedom

In the name of humanity

In the name of morality

In the name of heaven

Many of us grew up on the idea that the West is the sponsor of freedom before liberation, the sponsor of thought before reflection, the sponsor of humanity before religions, the sponsor of morality without prejudice, the sponsor of coexistence without division, the sponsor of truth rather than illusions, and the sponsor of peace without extremism.

We hope that these traits will not disappear from you, especially in Sweden and Denmark.. because of childish and extremist acts that do not belong to freedom, humanity, coexistence, or truth in anything. Hence, I received the news of your criminalization of assaulting the Holy Books with respect and appreciation. Just as we stood against ISIS extremism in our country and your country, we hope that you will not give the lurkers the opportunity to fish in troubled waters between brothers in religion or counterparts in humanity.

I am also fully prepared to adopt a meaningful and constructive dialogue between us and you, whether with the religious followers of Jesus, peace be upon him, or Moses, peace be upon him, or with those who deny that among the atheists and their like. Dialogue brings us together and integrates us without imposing wills or making others kneel.

And I hope that the law criminalizing attacks on the Holy Books will be passed in your esteemed parliaments and that this will be generalized to every sacred one of the prophets, as it includes the flags of countries, respect and reverence for them, just as we reject the infringement of the flags of your countries and we reject any attack on your flags before and later./ End
