Doha: Al Rayyan SC announced the departure of Japanese defender Shogo Taniguchi from the first team during summer transfer. In a statement, the club said it had agreed with the player to terminate the contract between the two parties by mutual consent. Taniguchi joined Al Rayyan in the 2022-2023 winter transfer from Japan's Kawasaki Frontale. The Japanese defender joined his country's national team in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 finals and was also part of the national team's squad in the recent AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 finals and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. During this summer transfers, Al Rayyan signed Swedish coach Poya Asbaghi, coming from Al Shamal SC, replacing Portuguese Leonardo Jardim, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent after one season with the team. Al Rayyan is holding its external preparatory camp for the 2024-2025 season in the Netherlands until July 29, where the team played one friendly experience in which Al Shamal won against the Dutch FC Eindhoven (1-0).
