Baghdad: Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohsen Al-Mandlawi extended his sincere congratulations and blessings to the journalistic family, the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate and the staff of the venerable Al-Zawraa newspaper, on the 155th anniversary of Iraqi Press Day, and the issuance of the first Iraqi newspaper in 1869. Al-Mandlawi said in a statement: We take advantage of this honorable occasion to remember the martyrs of the press who sacrificed their pure souls for the freedom of their country, stressing the need to care for their families and work to appreciate the great sacrifices of the heroic cadres who participated in conveying the battles of victory and liberation against terrorism. He added: We affirm the support of the legislative authority for freedom of the press, freedom of expression, and protection of journalists as an effective and responsible partner in the success and support of legislative and executive work, in addition to supporting the democratic process under the free doms guaranteed by the constitution and within the framework of journalistic codes of honor.
