Baghdad: Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, confirmed today, Sunday, that the media and the press are a major partner in achieving security, political stability, and the progress that our country is currently witnessing. In his speech during his attendance at the Iraqi Press National Day celebration, Al-Mandalawi called on the journalistic family to adhere to their noble roles and strive to strengthen the relationship between society and state institutions, appreciating the role of the fourth power in supporting the state in its confrontation of corruption, terrorist ideology, extremism, and the scourge of drugs. Al-Mandalawi expressed his aspiration for a greater effort to remove the corrupt, beneficiaries, and those affiliated with state institutions and the media. He reiterated the House of Representatives' support for the media by enacting legislation that provides legal immunity for professional work and the right to obtain information. He stressed the need to support the rights and care of the families of martyred and wounded Iraqi journalists, noting that the journalists' blood was mixed with that of the security forces during the liberation battles. He continued: 'The House of Representatives fully believes in partnership with the press and media in accomplishing parliamentary tasks and supporting the legislative and oversight roles of the House, its committees, and its members.'
