RAMALLAH: The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the caretaker government, Riyad Al-Maliki, appreciated the People's Republic of China's steadfast and supportive position for the Palestinian people. Al-Maliki appreciated the continued endeavor in all international forums to support the establishment of the Palestinian state and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, especially the oral argument that China recently presented in the International Court of Justice. This came during his meeting with the envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Wang Kejian, today, Wednesday, at the ministry's headquarters in Ramallah. Al-Maliki stressed the importance of the statements issued by the Chinese side in light of the continued Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. He appreciated China's provision of aid and support to the Palestinian people and financial support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Refugees (UNRWA), especially in light of the campaign led by Israel to get rid of the agency. Al-Maliki briefed Kejian on the catastrophic conditions that the Palestinian people are experiencing in the Gaza Strip due to the genocidal war waged by Israel for the 159th day in a row, resulting in the tragic killing of more than 31,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children, forced displacement, starvation, deprivation of medicines, the spread of epidemics, and the destruction of infrastructure, Al-Maliki stressed that a sustainable ceasefire, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, providing international protection for Palestinian civilians, and providing humanitarian aid in a safe manner constitute "the highest priority." Al-Maliki pointed out that this systematic violence and terrorism by the occupation authorities is no less dangerous in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which is witnessing an escalation in occupation crimes and colonial terrorism For his part, Kejian affirmed his country's permanent and steadfast position in supporting justice, peace and international law, supporting the principle of the two-state solution, the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, ensuring the safety of civilians and the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, and rejecting forced displacement. He pointed out that China supports the full membership of the Palestinian state in the United Nations. Source: Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA
