Baghdad Operations Command forces arrested a gang for murder and kidnapping and liberated a kidnapped woman and her three children in the Zaafaraniya area south of Baghdad. The Command stated in a statement that: "Following information indicating that there was a case of kidnapping of a woman and blackmailing her family to obtain sums of money, a joint task force was formed from the Anti-Kidnapping Cell and the Command Reconnaissance Battalion with the support of a distinguished intelligence effort from the Intelligence and Security Department of the Baghdad Operations Command, and after obtaining judicial approvals and monitoring and following up on the location of the kidnappers, and with a tight ambush, the kidnapped woman and her three children were liberated and their kidnappers, a man and a woman, were arrested." It explained that, after the initial investigation with the accused, he confessed to killing the kidnapped woman's husband and his mother with a sharp instrument (knife) and throwing his body in Wadi Al-Salam Cemetery. Immediately, judicial approvals were obtained and coordination was made with the Najaf Police Command (Crime Control). With the accused's guidance, the governorate was visited and the victim's body was found thrown in the cemetery. It was then lifted and handed over, along with the accused, to the competent authorities to complete the legal procedures against them.' Source: National Iraqi News Agency
