Gaza strip: Medical sources in the Gaza Strip have warned of a dangerous increase in cases of acute flaccid paralysis and Guillain-Barr© syndrome among children, due to atypical infections and worsening acute malnutrition. The situation has raised concerns over a potential health crisis in the region.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, three deaths from Guillain-Barr© syndrome have been recorded. Medical examinations have revealed the presence of intestinal viruses other than polio, indicating a fertile environment for the uncontrolled spread of infectious diseases. This revelation has heightened fears of a broader outbreak among children in the area.
The medical sources further explained that two of the deaths were recorded for children under the age of 15. Attempts to save them were unsuccessful due to the lack of necessary treatment, a consequence of the ongoing blockade. They emphasized that these are not just isolated incidents but rather a warning of a real potential infectious disaster that could have severe implications if not addressed promptly.
