Ramallah - Ma'an - The results of the 23rd electronic opinion poll, conducted by the International Academic Campaign Against the Israeli Occupation and Apartheid during the period from August 15-18, showed that the absolute majority of academics, intellectuals and activists, amounting to 81.1%, supported President Mahmoud Abbas's speech before the Turkish Parliament in which he announced his determination to visit the Gaza Strip with the Palestinian political leadership in order to stop the genocide that the Palestinian people are being subjected to in the Strip. 81.3% of the respondents stressed the importance of the return of the Palestinian National Authority to the Gaza Strip. While 57.1% of them believed that the return of the Palestinian National Authority to the Strip would contribute significantly to stopping the genocide that the Palestinian people are being subjected to in the Gaza Strip. In contrast, 43.1% of the respondents believed that there is great difficulty for the president to go to Gaza, as 71.3% of them expressed their doubts about the possibility of the occupation state allowing this visit or the return of the Palestinian National Authority to the Strip. On the other hand, 76% of the respondents linked the President's speech in the Turkish parliament to the degree of coordination and consultation between the Palestinian and Turkish leaderships regarding the President's initiative to go to the Gaza Strip. 57.1% of the respondents believed that Turkey could exert some pressure regarding the implementation of the President's initiative due to its regional and international standing. 54.1% of the respondents indicated that the President's initiative to visit the Strip would receive international support from many parties. It is worth noting that this survey included a purposive sample of 536 academics, researchers and activists in Palestinian and foreign universities, 67.4% of whom live in the West Bank, 11.8% in the Strip, 12.9% in Arab countries, and 8% in foreign countries.
