Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit confirmed today, Tuesday, that the continuation of the Zionist crimes in Gaza and southern Lebanon hindered peace efforts. The official spokesman for the Secretary-General, Jamal Rushdi, said in a statement: "Aboul Gheit met with the High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Moratinos, on the sidelines of the high-level session of the (79) session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York." He pointed out that "Aboul Gheit warned that the various challenges facing the world today, especially the continuation of the Zionist crimes and killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and southern Lebanon, without any respect for humanitarian values, principles and international laws, led to the absence of trust and to the obstruction of any efforts leading to the promotion of a culture of peace and dialogue." Rushdi added that "the two parties stressed the need to cooperate in implementing the e xecutive plan for the unified strategy of the Alliance of Civilizations, which was prepared by the General Secretariat and approved by the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level in 2016."
