A government source revealed details of the theft of more than 8 billion dinars from the Diyala Governorate office. The source told the correspondent of the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that the involved employees stole sums of money from compensation allocations and fled to an unknown destination, pointing out that the theft of amounts was carried out through checks that were gradually disbursed by 3 employees from the compensation department 8 months ago, the last of which was a check amounting to 3 billion dinars. He added that the theft was revealed by auditing and reconciling the accounts, and a high-level investigation was opened by the official authorities to pursue the perpetrators.
