Eighty presidential hopefuls, including four women, have registered their candidacies for the Iran's election slated for June 28, as the registration period concluded on Monday. Forty-three candidates registered in the last day, Monday, running for the presidential seat, while the competent bodies will examine all candidacies as of Tuesday, tomorrow. Of the most outstanding candidates are speaker of Iran's parliament Mohammad Baqer, his deputy Ali Nikzad and minister of transport Mehrdad Bazrpash as well as former first vice president Eshaq Jahangiri. In addition, head of Iran's Planning and Budget Organization Daoud Manzoor, Minister of labor and social affairs Sowlat Mortazavi, former presidential candidate and head of the Martyrs Foundation Amir Hossein Qazizadeh, and Minister of culture Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili are also among the presidential hopefuls. All of them were members of the government of the late President Ebrahim Raisi. Former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iranian supreme leader's representa tive to the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili, Mayor of Tehran Ali Reza Zakani as well as others have submitted their candidacies to run for the post. Iran's electoral law stipulates that the presidential hopeful's age is between 40-70 with a Master's degree or an equivalent certificate. The law also provides that the candidate should serve at least four years in an administrative department in the country and his criminal record is clear. Iran's authorities decided on May 20 holding an early presidential poll on June 28 after the vacancy of this position following the death of president Ibrahim Raisi, and his companions, in a helicopter crash on May 19.
