ALGIERS, Six soldiers were killed on Monday following a militant attack on the Niger-Benin oil transport pipeline monitoring unit, the military announced. In a statement released by Niger's military said that the dead soldiers were a part of an operation against militant groups that have been patrolling the southeastern Dosso region for years, nearby the Niger Benin borders. The soldiers responded effectively, killing an unverified number of militants and forcing the rest to fall back, the statement continued. It is an unprecedented attack on the nearly 2000 km Niger-Benin pipeline which was designed to transport crude oil from Niger's Agadem field to the port of Seme in Benin. Source: Kuwait News Agency
