An earthquake measuring 5.4 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the eastern coast of Chiba Prefecture, central Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said in a statement that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 50 km. There have been no reports of human losses or material damage as a result of the earthquake so far. Japan is located at the meeting point of four tectonic plates, making it particularly vulnerable to seismic activity. It is also home to 100 active volcanoes. In 2011, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake rocked Japan and triggered a tsunami, killing more than 15,000 people and causing a disaster at Fukushima nuclear plant. Source: Qatar News Agency
