5.3-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Papua New Guinea

An earthquake measuring 5.3 magnitude on the Richter scale hit East Sepik province in Papua New Guinea. The epicenter of the quake occurred 27 km north of Ambunti town, at a depth of 61.4 km, US Geological Survey reported. There have been no reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the quake so far. Papa New Guinea is located in the so-called Ring of Fire, a region that extends along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, which is characterized by high seismic and volcanic activity. In February 2018, a devastating earthquake hit the region, killing at least 100 people and causing landslides that buried dozens of villages. Source: Qatar News Agency
