An earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale struck on Monday Ibaraki Prefecture, eastern Japan. Japan Meteorological Agency said that the epicenter of the quake was at a depth of 90 km north of Ibaraki Prefecture, measuring 3 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7. It was felt by residents in central Tokyo. With no tsunami threat from the earthquake, there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. Japan is located at the meeting point of four tectonic plates, making it particularly vulnerable to seismic activity. It is also home to 100 active volcanoes. Japan is exposed to about 1,500 earthquakes every year, which represents about 18 percent of the world's earthquakes, but the majority of them are mild. Source: Qatar News Agency
