An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of the Maluku Islands in eastern Indonesia, Sunday, without any casualties or property damage reported so far. The US Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred in the Kepulauan Babar area, east of the Maluku Archipelago, at a depth of 144.9 km, and that it is unlikely that this earthquake will cause tsunamis. Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
