United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today reiterated his rejection of the Israeli attack on Rafah in southern Gaza, stressing that it is "unacceptable in any form." Guterres, in his speech at the 33rd Arab Summit said that there is no justification for the Israeli aggression on Gaza... and no justification for the collective punishment of the Palestinian people, emphasizing that the situation in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, is escalating due to the expansion of Israeli settlements. He emphasized the need for collective work towards achieving peace and enhancing stability in the world. He also stressed the urgent need for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, and to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid without obstacles throughout the region, referring to the Israeli settlers obstruction of humanitarian aid reaching Gaza, and their targeting of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), which remains the largest relief agency in th e sector and in the Middle East region. The UN Secretary-General also touched on the situation in Sudan, highlighting that it has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people, with the looming danger of famine threatening 18 million people, urging the international community to intensify its efforts to bring about peace, and calling on the warring parties to agree to a permanent ceasefire followed by a political process. He pledged the full support of the United Nations for this endeavor.
