24 Years after His First Visit… Russian President Arrives in North Korea on Tuesday

Moscow, The Russian Presidency (the Kremlin) announced Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit North Korea, starting Tuesday. In a statement, the Kremlin said that at the invitation of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, President Putin will visit North Korea from June 18 to 19. The visit comes amid concerns expressed by South Korea about the two sides engaging in military cooperation, demanding that cooperation between them be based on compliance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Putin first visited North Korea in July 2000, the only time he visited Pyongyang, two months after his inauguration as president, while Kim Jong Un visited Russia last year. According to the Kremlin statement, the Russian President is then scheduled to visit Vietnam on June 19 and 20, during which he will discuss prospects for developing bilateral relations and signing cooperation agreements between the two countries.
